In recent months, rumors have surfaced several times that Apple plans to introduce a tracker for objects – corresponding hints in beta versions of iOS 13 fueled the assumption – now there is a new discovery.

The US website MacRumors has discovered new references to the so-called "Apple Tags" in the final version of iOS 13. According to the screenshot, users of such trackers will be able to store corresponding items in the "Items" area under iOS 13 in the "Find My" app - from there, all management and monitoring of the individual "Apple Tags" takes place. If the "Item" menu item is opened, three categories appear - "People", "Devices" and "Objects". New "tags" can be added using the "Elements" button - see image: "Add B389". If the setup area is expanded, a note appears. It says: "Keep track of your everyday objects - mark your everyday objects with B389 and never lose them again." Previous leaks and rumors indicate that Apple's tracker has ultra-wideband technology - this is also known to be present in 2019 iPhones.

Is the October event coming?

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a short-range, energy-saving radio technology that allows for very precise location determination - especially indoors. Products like Tile use Bluetooth - this allows for less precise location determination. The distance between two UWB devices can be measured much better because the time it takes for a radio wave to travel between the two devices is calculated - the iPhone 11, for example, could serve as a counterpart to Apple's tracking solution.

Apple's Tile competitor was first discovered in a very early iOS 13 beta in June of this year. Apple received a patent for the as yet unreleased product in 2016. It is currently unknown when Apple plans to introduce the new accessory. Since new iPad Pro and Mac models are pending, another keynote is expected in October - the new Tile competitor could see the light of day at this event. (Photo by Sergeybitos / Bigstockphoto)
