As usual, the repair specialists at iFixit have conducted a first teardown of the iPhone 13 Pro. The first report highlights the large battery, the revised TrueDepth camera, and minor changes to the internal structure of the phone.

Like previous generations, the new iPhone 13 models are sealed with adhesive. The display cable is again located on the left side of the case this year. These cables connect to the logic board, which has been moved up in the case to accommodate an L-shaped battery - a design adopted from the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

According to iFixit, the 3,095 mAh battery has a nominal output of 11.97 watt hours and a measured capacity of 12.11 Wh. For comparison: The battery of the iPhone 12 Pro had a capacity of 10.78 Wh. The repair specialist points out that the iPhone 13 Pro's battery can be replaced but a warning message appears before using spare parts. To reduce the iPhone's "notch," this year's TrueDepth system features a more compact design that combines the floodlight and dot projector into a single module located between the color and IR cameras on the front.

iPhone 13 Pro teardown: Camera module increases

Unlike in 2020, Apple has built the iPhone's earpiece into the body instead of placing it on the device's display. On the back, the iPhone 13 Pro's triple camera module is larger than that of the iPhone 12 Pro, likely due to the larger and better wide-angle sensor, a new telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a faster ultra-wide-angle module with autofocus.

A closer look at the logic board and neighboring components reveals a combined digitizer and display cable, which joins a redesigned sensor cable. In previous iPhone models, the digitizer and display cables were individual parts that required separate connectors. The iPhone 13 Pro's Taptic Engine appears to be smaller than the iPhone 12 Pro's. A more comprehensive report, which also examines the TrueDepth sensor, logic board, and part replacement, is expected in the next few days. (Image: Apple)
