#AppleToo documents nearly 500 cases of problems at work

The public may soon learn much more about Apple's internal working environment than the company itself would like. After all, Cupertino's efforts to keep details about its internal workings under wraps are almost legendary.

An employee initiative called #AppleToo announced yesterday that it has documented nearly 500 cases of discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Interestingly, the whole thing was only launched earlier this week, and it has collected nearly 500 cases in four days. #AppleToo also plans to start sharing the stories of these employees on Monday, after providing a guide on how to contact local authorities. This will be done via the organization's Twitter account @AppleLaborers reported.

#AppleToo: Discrimination, Sexism, Racism and more

In addition, Apple's HR department has consistently ignored the complaints reported, organizers say. Other employees have recently spoken out about similar issues. For example, Ashley Gjovik, a senior engineering program manager who was placed on leave in August, began documenting her experiences with Apple on Twitter and her own website. From workplace safety to sexism - and retaliation for reporting said grievances - Gjovik's allegations of harassment are varied. #AppleToo first took shape as a Discord channel created with the help of Apple leaker "Fudge." About 15 current and former employees organized the movement, which aims to shed light on workplace harassment, discrimination, sexism, racism, and other issues. (Photo by Jimmy Jin / Unsplash)
