The new iPad Pro was presented on October 30th as part of a keynote and has been shipping since yesterday. The new professional tablet has a lot to offer - but Apple has left out a few important points.
After numerous rumors and leaks, it was less surprising that Apple introduced a new iPad Pro. The tablet has a new design and is equipped with many new features. There have also been some changes in terms of connectivity.
USB-C with limitations
The Lightning port has been replaced by a USB-C port and this is now causing confusion. Apple has included a USB-C cable with the new professional tablet, but this does not have "USB 3.1 Gen 2" support. The cable is therefore not suitable for connecting the iPad to other screens. For this, you need to purchase another cable with more bandwidth - for example Apple's Thunderbolt 3 cable (45 euros). Even more confusing is the fact that despite a Thunderbolt 3 cable, the new iPad Pro can be connected to other screens, but not specifically to the LG UltraFine 5K display.
This is probably because both devices work with different technologies despite the USB-C port. The iPad Pro outputs the information via DisplayPort, while the LG monitor in question uses Thunderbolt 3. Since the LG UltraFine 5K display was developed in collaboration with Apple, the incompatibility is particularly questionable.
Apple Pencil 2 with less content
The new stylus from Apple boasts several new features. The Apple Pencil 2 will no longer need a lightning connector. If the pencil is near the device, it will connect automatically - similar to the AirPods principle. The new Apple Pencil also has gesture control. Apple has set the price for the new pencil at 135 euros and is saving on accessories.
The first generation Apple Pencil was available to buy together with a replacement tip. This is no longer included with the new Apple Pencil. This costs an additional 25 euros for four pieces.
