As expected, Apple released iOS 14.7.1, iPadOS 14.7.1 and macOS Big Sur 11.5.1 to all users worldwide this evening.

After iOS 14.7 was released, Apple confirmed a bug related to Touch ID devices in conjunction with the Apple Watch. As a reminder – my Article:

Now the company has admitted to a bug that could prevent users from unlocking their Apple Watch devices by simply unlocking their paired iPhones with Touch ID. After iOS 14.7 was released into the wild, Apple has now provided a new support document that documents a bug contained in iOS 14.7. However, the whole thing only affects iPhone devices with Touch ID. According to Apple, anyone who notices the error must manually enter their Apple Watch passcode in order to unlock it. An update should fix the whole thing. Users who have forgotten their Apple Watch passcode must reset their Apple Watches. Corporate users whose iPhones are loaded with MDM profiles that require alphanumeric passwords must work with their MDM administrators to remove the password requirement and then unpair, erase and re-set up their Apple Watches.

In addition to the bug mentioned above, other bugs have been fixed. Since Apple has fixed a whole series of vulnerabilities in iOS 14.7 patched has, the update strongly recommended for security reasons. Below you will find the update description in full. (Photo by Runa0410 / Bigstockphoto)

iOS 14.7 update description:

  • iOS 14.7.1 fixes an issue that prevents iPhone models with Touch ID from unlocking a paired Apple Watch using Unlock with iPhone. This update also includes important security fixes and is recommended for all users.
