The official Twitter account of Apple TV+ announced last night that the drama “The Banker” won the category “Outstanding Independent Motion Picture” celebrated. The team behind the film was congratulated on the award. Starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson, "The Banker" follows a pair of Black businessmen as they build a real estate and banking empire. To succeed, the duo brings on board a white, working-class man who poses as the privileged face of the empire.

The film is inspired by true events, which led to problems with the film's release. The November 2019 premiere was canceled due to sexual allegations against a producer, followed by demands from the producer's ex-wives that the film not be released at all.
