iPhone 2021: New details about the notch and camera module

Rumor has it that Apple's next generation iPhone will feature a slimmer TrueDepth notch and a flush camera module on the back.

Apple's next generation iPhone, due to be released in fall 2021, could feature a slimmer TrueDepth "notch" and a slightly thicker body, according to a new report, which could be related to changes to the camera module. vocation Citing sources from Apple’s Chinese supply chain, Macotakara reports that the “iPhone 13” will feature small but important design changes to allow for a slimming of the TrueDepth notch.

In particular, the earpiece is expected to be repositioned. In fact, it will be moved closer to the edge of the case. In current iPhone models with Face ID, the speaker is located between important - and physically large - components, with the system's dot projector and front-facing camera on the right side and the infrared sensor and infrared camera on the left. Apple miniaturized certain TrueDepth components in the iPhone 12. But the process did not result in a smaller "notch," as was rumored last year. Similar rumors circulated in April 2019, when allegedly leaked schematics illustrated plans to push the receiver into the bezel area above TrueDepth. These changes were originally predicted for the iPhone 12. However, the TrueDepth array in the current iPhone lineup is largely identical to previous models.

Devices could be slightly thicker

Today's report also predicts that the camera on the back of the 2021 iPhone models will be around 0.9mm thicker. Instead of a camera bump with protruding lenses, the new design will feature an integrated unit with each camera module flush-mounted and possibly covered by a plate of sapphire glass, the sources said. Additionally, the camera units in the so-called "iPhone 13 Pro" and "iPhone 13 Pro Max" are said to be identical in size, suggesting that the lower-end model will get sensor-shift optical image stabilization in 2021. Apple increased the size of the camera bump on the iPhone 12 Pro Max to accommodate a 47 percent larger wide-angle sensor, which was also the first iPhone camera module to benefit from sensor-shift stabilization. By and large, the next iPhone lineup is expected to feature the current design as well. But the models are said to be 0.26mm thicker overall. (Photo by New Africa / Bigstockphoto)
