2018 iPhones: This is what Apple will deliver to us

In September it's time - Apple's keynote, the hottest show of the year is as sure as day. There will be three new iPhone models and this is what they will bring with them.

The biggest innovation: All models will follow the current iPhone X, Touch ID is a thing of the past. The 3D facial recognition Face ID is not only more secure but also more convenient and intuitive. The iPhone X will continue with 5.8" and will also get a big brother with a full 6.5" screen - the Plus version. Both will have an OLED display. Another iPhone with a 6.1" LCD will also be part of the line-up. The OLED devices will have a DUAL camera. The LCD model will most likely only have one main camera sensor, like the iPhone 8.

Due to the large display, the iPhone X Plus will have a landscape mode. This function is well known to all owners of iPhone Plus models or iPads. This information was found in the current iOS 12 beta and Xcode. An A 12 processor with 4 GB RAM is to be installed. The top model could appear with 512 GB flash memory.

Dual-SIM

Rumors that at least one of the new iPhones will have two SIM card slots in the fall have been circulating online since February of this year. Now developer Guilherme Rambo has found new clues in the fifth iOS 12 Developer Beta. He was able to find references such as "second SIM status" and "second SIM Tray status" in the system depths. These were added to the existing keys "simStatus" and "simTrayStatus". This discovery fuels all the rumors about a multi-SIM in the iPhone, Guilherme Rambo himself also believes in it, but the iGroup could also only offer such a function in certain regions.

Foxconn employees recently mentioned four model numbers: 801, 802, 803 and 804. The first two numbers stand for the OLED models. 803 and 804 refer to the expected LCD iPhone with a display diagonal of 6.1", one for sale worldwide and the other only for the Chinese market. The difference is the dual-SIM capability.

In China, many more people often use two or more SIM cards, which is why the demand for multi-SIM devices is higher. So it is conceivable that Apple would want to adapt to the market and meet this particular demand.

Whether Apple will release an iPhone with dual SIM remains uncertain – the fact is that iOS 12 is currently being prepared for it.

Lightning to jack adapter

Apple will apparently no longer include the small lightning-to-jack adapter with the new iPhones. At least that is what Cowen analyst Matthew D. Ramsay claims. He analyzed the quarterly report from Apple's supplier Cirrus Logic and came to this conclusion. The company produces audio chips for the iGroup, which are also used in the adapter in question. But that no longer seems to be the case. It is also conceivable that Apple has simply changed suppliers or has now taken over the production of this chip itself.

availability

Due to problems with the backlight, the LCD iPhone will not be available until October, wrote the well-informed analyst Katy Huberty, from the bank Morgan Stanley, in her latest report to investors.

Colors

Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo wrote a few weeks ago that Apple will make its iPhones more colorful this year. In a more recent report, the Japanese blog Macotakara supports his statement. Specifically, the colors will be white, black, electric blue, flash yellow, bright orange and taupe.

power supply

The previous 5-watt charger is to be replaced by an 18-watt USB-C power adapter. (Lightning to USB-C) The faster adapter will initially only be available in combination with the new iPhones. This means that if you buy a model from the new iPhone series, the power adapter will be included. Separate availability is only planned at a later date. The power adapter will also support the USB-C authentication standard - C-Auth for short - which was developed as part of the USB Power Delivery Revision 3.0. This allows the device to recognize whether it is connected to a certified cable or not.

prices

Currently, analysts expect the LCD model to cost $700 plus taxes. That would be $300 less than the iPhone X, which will be available starting at $1,000.

Of course, we don't know whether more leaks and rumors will appear before the official presentation. If you take a look into the past, you quickly realize that it is possible.
