Facebook has released a new experimental application for the Apple Watch. “Kit” (Keep in Touch) is an extension of the well-known Facebook Messenger.
The Facebook team responsible for new product experiments has released a new Apple Watch application called “Kit”. This is not intended to replace Facebook Messenger but to complement it. It is only available for the Apple Watch and does not require a companion application on the iPhone. However, it uses the Facebook Messenger and is intended for communication with "the closest contacts". All messages sent or received via "Kit" go through the Facebook Messenger service. Messages can be written using voice recording, dictation and the scribble input function on the Apple Watch. Support for emojis is also available. The app description shows the following features:
Exploring the communication functions of the Apple Watch
- Get started: Sign in by scanning a QR code on your watch or by entering an access code at fb.com/devices.
- Contact selection: Select a messenger connection from your suggested and current contacts with one click. To switch, tap "Change contact" on the settings page.
- Send a message: Send a message with a tap using audio recording, emoji, location sharing, doodle, or dictation input.
- Receive messages: Tap your contact's messages on the right.
- Notifications: Receive and respond to notifications from your most important Messenger contact.
It is not known what goals Facebook is pursuing with "Kit". Apparently the company wants to experiment with the Apple Watch and learn more about the communication functions. The "Kit" app was developed exclusively for the Apple Watch and is currently being rolled out. This means that it is not yet available in every store. Download ready.
