Facebook Messenger app gets a new look

Facebook has started rolling out a new design within the Facebook Messenger app. While some users already have the new look, others will have to wait a little longer.

Facebook seems to have revised its own messenger. The aim of the update is to increase the speed and simplicity of the application. TechCrunch:

Chatbots were a central part of Facebook Messenger's strategy three years ago. Now they're hidden in the app along with games and businesses. Facebook Messenger is now removing the Discover tab as it focuses on speed and simplicity rather than broad utility like China's WeChat.

The changes are part of a larger Messenger redesign that will refocus the People tab around Stories as Facebook continues to try to dominate the ephemeral social media format it copied from Snapchat. The People tab now defaults to a full-screen Friends Stories sub-tab and requires a tap on the Active sub-tab to see which friends are now online.

Currently not available for all users

Accordingly, the Messenger app will now appear without the "Discover" section. This means that in the future the view will be divided into two areas: "Chat" and "People". While all conversations are displayed under "Chat", stories and the list of all active users can be viewed in the "People" menu. According to TechCrunch, Facebook has already confirmed the change. However, not all users will have access to it at the same time. However, there was no comment regarding the dark mode in the main application. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
