Apple is taking its AI to a new level: The next generation of Apple Intelligence is embedded deeper in everyday apps than ever before \u2013 from photorealistic images and agent-based password repair to Safari that automatically sorts tabs. For the first time, Apple has also openly confirmed that Google is on board with the new models. Everything is available to developers starting today, and the general public will get access this fall.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At its WWDC keynote on June 8, 2026, Apple not only showcased the completely redesigned Siri<\/a> but also unveiled the next generation of Apple Intelligence, which will deliver smarter apps across the entire system. The new Foundation Models are being developed in collaboration with Google, whose Gemini technology has been rumored to be Apple's AI partner for months<\/a> \u2013 marking the first time the company has officially acknowledged whose models are working behind the scenes. The focus is on features where users simply describe what they want, and the system takes care of the rest. Software chief Craig Federighi defined truly helpful AI as one that is tailored to user needs, deeply integrated into everyday products, context-aware, and built with privacy in mind at every stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edit photos without distorting the moment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Photos app accesses more powerful image models, allowing for more comprehensive editing of photos while respecting the original captured moment. Images enhanced with Apple Intelligence automatically receive a hidden SynthID watermark indicating AI processing. This confirms what had previously been hinted at as three new AI features for the Photos app<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spatial Reframing allows you to improve image composition after the fact. The feature builds on Apple's understanding of spatial models from the development of Apple Vision Pro: You drag a photo with your finger and see in real time how the perspective shifts \u2013 as if you had repositioned the camera in the original scene. Spatial Reframing only creates new image content where the perspective has shifted, ensuring the result matches the original scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Extend tool allows you to expand images to give the subject more space \u2013 for example, to straighten a crooked horizon without cropping out important parts, or to adjust the aspect ratio. Extend fills in the missing areas. The popular Clean tool also receives a significant quality upgrade, removing distracting elements with more realistic fill, even in complex scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safari organizes tabs and repairs passwords<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New tools are changing how you browse the web in Safari \u2013 and according to Apple, without revealing any personal browsing data to anyone, not even Apple itself. Safari now automatically organizes open tabs by topic. For example, if you're planning a weekend trip, Safari will group all your travel tabs together and add new tabs accordingly. This AI-powered tab grouping<\/a> had already leaked before the keynote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With \"Notify Me,\" you can monitor a website for changes, such as products becoming available again or prices dropping. As soon as Safari detects a relevant change, you'll receive a notification. The Passwords app goes a step further: it no longer just warns you about weak or compromised passwords, but automatically fixes them with a tap. Using Apple Intelligence and Safari, it navigates websites, logs you in, and upgrades your account to a strong password. \"Describe an Extension\" also lets you create your own Safari extensions simply by providing a description - for example, a button to save and rate tried recipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photorealistic images in the new Image Playground<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Image Playground is receiving a major update. Images can now be created in virtually any style, including photorealistic images for the first time, thanks to a new generative model powered by private cloud computing. A hidden SynthID watermark automatically indicates that an image was generated using AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Editing becomes more intuitive: users describe the desired changes or tap, circle, or select an object to move or resize it. The generated images can now be used more broadly \u2013 in addition to messages, for example, as lock screen backgrounds or contact posters. The aspect ratio is also selectable, such as landscape for a website or portrait for a flyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smarter communication and scheduling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Several new features help organize communication and retrieve relevant information at the right moment. Messages now offers one-tap suggestions based on the conversation context, for example, to create a reminder or a note. If someone asks for photos, the app helps find the right ones by recognizing keywords, locations, and people in the photo library. Suggestions in Mail can also perform actions with third-party apps, and the smart reply feature in Mail and Messages now uses the user's personal writing style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you call a company, Call Context displays relevant information such as a confirmation code or reservation number directly in the Phone app. For example, if you call an airline to rebook a flight, the Phone app will automatically find the confirmation code in your email. Call Context only considers who you call, not what you say, and runs entirely on your device, so nothing is shared with Apple or third parties. In the calendar, appointments can also be created or edited simply by entering a description \u2013 as you type, the calendar recognizes contacts and locations and generates a title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply describe keyboard shortcuts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Shortcuts app is becoming more accessible: With "Describe a Shortcut," a simple description is all it takes, and Apple Intelligence automatically compiles the necessary steps. Users who want to customize or add to a shortcut can describe the change, and the app will adjust the sequence accordingly. For example, the alarm can be automatically set to the first calendar appointment of the following day, a specific window layout of favorite apps can be opened when the iPad is connected to the Magic Keyboard, or the porch light can be turned on as soon as a notification arrives about an incoming food delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence also simplifies things at home, with new features for accessory notifications and functionality for HomeKit Secure Video cameras. The Home app now groups related notifications into a single activity, so only one message appears, which updates as the activity progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generated video descriptions let you quickly grasp what happened across a series of clips without having to watch them. Camera clips can be searched, for example, for a package delivery, and the Home app highlights noteworthy clips at the top of the search page, making it easy to find important moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significantly stronger accessibility features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence is driving several accessibility innovations. VoiceOver helps blind and visually impaired users explore their surroundings and screen content even better with richer image descriptions. Enhanced live recognition allows users to quickly ask a question about their environment and receive a detailed answer via the Action Button on their iPhone. Magnifying Glass brings the same assistive exploration to a high-contrast interface for visually impaired users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voice control, which allows you to operate your iPhone and iPad entirely by voice, is becoming more intuitive: Instead of having to memorize exact names or numbers, you can simply describe buttons and controls. The reading assistant, which offers a customized reading experience, can now handle more complex source material and provides summaries and translations on request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further innovations across the system<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence brings numerous minor improvements. Automatic proofreading provides better spelling and grammar suggestions system-wide as you type. Intelligent name suggestions for files and folders are now available based on their content. Workout Buddy is now available in Spanish, works on Apple Watch even without a nearby iPhone, and incorporates more fitness data into its motivational prompts. Genmoji creations are now of higher quality, and desired changes can be described.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new architecture and Google's role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new capabilities are based on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, which Apple says are being developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, tailor-made for deeply integrated Apple intelligence experiences. These models run on the device as well as on servers via Private Cloud Compute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple emphasizes<\/a> that every part of the new architecture is built according to the principle of "privacy first"\u2014from the Foundation Models to the operating system technologies that deeply integrate these models into the platforms. Private Cloud Compute is designed to provide access to cutting-edge intelligence while extending the privacy and security of the iPhone into the cloud. When Private Cloud Compute processes a request, personal data is neither stored nor accessible to Apple or third parties; independent experts can verify this promise at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Availability, devices and regional limits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new features are available to developers starting today through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta will follow next month through the Apple Beta Software Program. For all users, the next generation of Apple Intelligence will arrive this fall with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27\u2014provided Apple Intelligence is enabled on a supported device with a supported language. German is among the supported languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following devices are required: iPhone 16 or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini (A17 Pro), iPad models with M1 or later, MacBook Neo (A18 Pro), Mac models with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch Series 10 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with a nearby Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. Some features, such as image generation, have daily usage limits because they rely on powerful server models. Most iCloud+ plans offer more flexibility and also include Apple Intelligence support for compatible home cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the other Apple intelligence features will be released in German this fall, the new Siri on iPhone and iPad will remain unavailable in the EU for the time being; it can be used on Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro if a supported language is supported. Siri AI and the other new Apple intelligence features will not be available in China until regulatory requirements are finalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple's AI alliance will become the foundation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What's remarkable isn't so much the sheer number of new features as the admission behind them: Apple is no longer building its most important future technology alone, but is openly basing the next generation of its Foundation models on Google's Gemini. For a company that has cultivated independence and data privacy as core brand values for years, this is a remarkable step \u2013 softened by the consistent narrative surrounding private cloud computing and on-device processing. Whether the features will prove convincing in everyday use will become clear this fall, when they become widely available.
