Apple has announced<\/a> that it will open its first European Apple Developer Center in Berlin later this year. The new facility aims to provide the European developer community with a more direct line to Apple's experts and a more direct way to learn about the latest tools, technologies, and resources. The announcement comes at a time when Apple is already prioritizing engagement with developers \u2013 just days before the WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple's main developer forum of the year, which is expected to unveil new software and hardware innovations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What developers can expect in Berlin's city center<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Apple Developer Center Berlin is designed for teams of all sizes and at every stage of app development. It serves as a base for on-site events, workshops, and individual consultations. Regular events aim to improve the design, quality, and performance of apps for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, and watchOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, there are areas for professional exchange and specially designed labs where developers receive practical support from Apple's experts \u2013 in several languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the European scene. Susan Prescott, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, describes Europe as home to an "exceptional developer community" and emphasizes the belief that outstanding achievements emerge when developers have the right tools and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the opening of a new developer center in Berlin, Apple is further expanding its existing network of development centers. Currently, such locations exist in Bengaluru, Cupertino, Shanghai, and Singapore \u2013 Berlin will be the first in Europe and joins this list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple sees the center as part of its ongoing investments in app development. Apps can be offered through the App Store in 175 countries and regions, supported by a global base of more than 2.5 billion devices. According to Apple, by 2025, the App Stores in Europe alone were projected to have an average of over 150 million weekly users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For smaller providers, Apple also points to the App Store Small Business Program, which includes a 15 percent reduced commission. The level of App Store commissions is the subject of legal disputes elsewhere \u2013 for example, in the US, where Apple and Epic have agreed on a timetable for new commission negotiations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting the next generation of developers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beyond simply serving as a contact point, Apple sees the Berlin center as a complement to its support for young talent. This includes programs such as the Swift Student Challenge, a global network of 19 Apple Developer Academies, and Apple Foundation programs in Italy and France, which, according to the company, support thousands of developers across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technically, developers gain access to a wide range of interfaces: more than 250,000 APIs are distributed across frameworks such as HealthKit, Metal, Core ML, MapKit, and SwiftUI. In addition, there are tools designed to facilitate the distribution of apps and games via the App Store and improve their discoverability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Berlin as a signal to Europe's developer scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The choice of location is more than symbolic. With a permanent facility in Berlin, Apple is creating a solid anchor point on a continent that, until now, has only been accessible through its annual developer conference and digital resources. Having a physical center significantly lowers the barrier to personal interaction \u2013 especially for smaller teams and individual developers who rarely travel to the US or Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fact that the opening takes place so close to WWDC underscores the direction: Apple doesn't want to limit its relationship with its developer community to just one week a year, but rather establish a permanent presence in Europe.
