Apple has released a new firmware for the AirTag 2. It's the second firmware update since its market launch in early 2026 \u2013 and follows a now familiar pattern without official release notes: a few weeks of patience, a gradual rollout, and no option for manual installation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 26, 2026, Apple released a new firmware version for the AirTag 2. Version 3.0.49 replaces the previous version 3.0.45, which was released in early April and included a revised warning tone for stalking protection<\/a>. Apple has not yet published specific release notes for version 3.0.49. Experience shows that minor firmware updates typically involve bug fixes and underlying optimizations that are barely noticeable in everyday use but improve system stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is known about the new firmware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Firmware version 3.0.49 is the second official software update for the AirTag 2 since its launch. Apple typically doesn't provide extensive documentation for such updates \u2013 and this time is no exception, with no detailed release notes. That's precisely why minor version jumps like 3.0.49 might seem unspectacular to many users at first glance, but ultimately contribute to the product's maturity. With the second generation of AirTag, Apple is following a path that was already evident with the first AirTag: many small steps, but with a clear direction.
