According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to integrate Visual Intelligence directly into the camera app \u2013 with new features such as nutritional scans and contact capture.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple is preparing one of the most exciting new features for iOS 27: The camera app will get its own Siri mode. What initially sounds like a minor reorganization is actually a strategic move. Apple wants to finally bring one of its underrated AI functions into the spotlight \u2013 and introduce several practical features along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new report<\/a> by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman provides the details. We've analyzed the information and show what changes are likely for iPhone users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visual Intelligence is moving into the camera app<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Currently, accessing Visual Intelligence requires a long press on the Camera Control button \u2013 a gesture many iPhone users simply aren't familiar with. Apple plans to change that with iOS 27. The feature will be integrated as a dedicated mode directly into the Camera app, on equal footing with Photo, Video, Portrait, and Panorama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shutter button in Siri mode will be visually redesigned: instead of the classic white circle, the Apple Intelligence logo will appear. This clearly signals to Apple that AI-powered functions are available. Users who prefer the Camera Control button can still use it \u2013 however, the shortcut will now lead directly to the new Siri mode in the Camera app, instead of the separate Visual Intelligence interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three new features for Visual Intelligence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the move to the camera app, Apple delivers three new application possibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scanning nutrition labels:<\/strong> By holding food packaging up to the camera, users can directly import the nutritional information into the Health app. Calories and macronutrients can be recorded without typing \u2013 a feature that will be particularly interesting for users focused on nutrition tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capture contact details:<\/strong> Visual Intelligence recognizes phone numbers and addresses on business cards or other printed materials and transfers them directly to the contacts app. This saves the tedious typing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digitizing tickets:<\/strong> The wallet app also benefits. Physical event tickets and membership cards can now be scanned via camera, from which a digital version is automatically generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The existing visual intelligence features will remain. Identifying plants and animals, adding appointments to the calendar, or sending images to ChatGPT and Google \u2013 all of this will continue to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of a larger Siri overhaul<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new camera mode shouldn't be viewed in isolation. Apple is planning a comprehensive Siri overhaul for iOS 27, something the company has been working on for some time. The new Siri features, originally expected for iOS 26.4, have been postponed several times and are now planned for iOS 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has already been reported that Siri will soon be able to process multiple commands in a single request. A standalone Siri app and a chatbot-like interface are also rumored.
