Apple has updated its Sports app and introduced two new features: weather information for Formula 1 races and smaller widget options for the iPhone home screen and CarPlay. New preparation options are also available to coincide with the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Apple Sports app has grown steadily since its launch in February 2024, becoming a central hub for sports fans within the Apple ecosystem. While it initially focused on live scores, Apple has gradually expanded it to include more sports, statistics, and features. The new version 3.10 brings two small but valuable additions \u2013 just in time for the Formula 1 season and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two main new features target different audiences. Formula 1 fans will have weather information displayed directly in the app \u2013 an important detail, as rain or changeable weather often determines the entire course of an F1 race. Widget users will appreciate the new, smaller sizes that fit better into customized home screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather for Formula 1 race<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Formula 1 extension now displays weather conditions directly in the race overviews. This is particularly helpful before and during a race weekend: Rain likely in qualifying? Warm temperatures for the race? Users can now see all this at a glance, without having to switch to a separate weather app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many Formula 1 fans, this is a long overdue integration. Weather plays a crucial role in motorsport \u2013 from tire choice and strategy to safety. Apple's offering this information directly in the Sports app makes the app significantly more useful for F1 fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smaller widgets for iPhone and CarPlay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The second major feature concerns widgets. Previously, Apple Sports widgets were relatively large and took up a lot of space on the home screen. The new version brings smaller widget options that are available both on the iPhone home screen and in CarPlay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is particularly relevant for CarPlay: Since iOS 26, CarPlay has supported widgets in the so-called dashboard screen, which users access by swiping right on the CarPlay interface. With the smaller sports widgets, multiple pieces of information can now be displayed simultaneously on this dashboard \u2013 for example, live game scores combined with weather or navigation previews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the two main features, Apple's release notes also mention the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. Users can already follow their favorite national teams and explore the different groups within the app. This simplifies tournament preparation and makes Apple Sports the central hub during the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Cup is taking place for the first time with 48 teams and is being held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico \u2013 which means German fans will sometimes have to watch late-night broadcasts, depending on the kick-off time. Apple's live score feature with Dynamic Island integration is likely to be in particularly high demand during the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
