Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has for the first time given a concrete price range for Apple's foldable iPhone. The device is expected to exceed the $2,000 mark, making it the most expensive iPhone ever.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was predictable that Apple's first foldable iPhone wouldn't be a bargain. Now, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has provided the first concrete assessment: The iPhone Ultra \u2013 as the device is rumored<\/a> to be called \u2013 will reportedly exceed the $2,000 mark. Gurman<\/a> left open whether this refers to the starting price or only certain storage configurations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For comparison: The most expensive iPhone currently is the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which costs $1,999 (\u20ac2,449) in its highest configuration with 2 TB of storage. If the iPhone Ultra does indeed start at $1,999, the version with maximum storage could be priced at around $2,799, based on Apple's usual pricing. This would put Apple in a price range previously reserved for professional hardware such as the Mac Studio or the Vision Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you get for the price<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The iPhone Ultra is designed to be a book-style foldable device that, when unfolded, offers a 7.7-inch internal display<\/a> - large enough for iPad-style multitasking, video playback, and gaming. When closed, a 5.3-inch external display is available. The Samsung-manufactured OLED panel<\/a> utilizes CoE technology and M14 materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two cameras on the back and a single front-facing camera in a punch-hole design. Touch ID is used in the side button instead of Face ID \u2013 Apple couldn't fit the Face ID components into the extremely thin casing. When unfolded, the device measures less than 5 millimeters, and when closed, approximately 9.5 millimeters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the display crease, there has been a slight correction to earlier reports: According to Gurman, Apple is using a technology that significantly reduces the crease, but does not eliminate it completely. Earlier rumors had suggested a virtually crease-free display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPhone Ultra: Price comparison with the competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple's pricing is at the upper end of what's typically charged for foldable devices. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at around $1,799 in the US, as does Google's Pixel Fold. A starting price of $1,999 or more would clearly position Apple above the competition \u2013 which fits with its Ultra positioning as a premium product, but would correspondingly limit its target audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prices in Europe are likely to be even higher due to taxes and exchange rates. Based on Apple's previous pricing, a starting price of \u20ac2,199 to \u20ac2,499 would be realistic for the German market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most expensive iPhone ever<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of the exact configuration, one thing is certain: the iPhone Ultra will be by far the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold. Whether the combination of a foldable display, new form factor, and iPad-like multitasking will provide enough compelling reasons to buy it will become clear in the fall of 2026<\/a>.
