The Defense Department&#039;s decision could have far-reaching consequences for technology companies and government procurement processes. There is growing concern within the industry that such a move could set a precedent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The relationship between the US government and large technology companies has been strained for some time. Particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence and military applications, conflicts repeatedly arise between political requirements, ethical questions, and economic interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the beginning of President Donald Trump&#039;s second term, many technology executives have been trying to maintain a good relationship with the administration. Members of the industry association include, among others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apple<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nvidia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amazon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/retail-consumer\/big-tech-group-tells-pentagons-hegseth-they-are-concerned-about-declaring-2026-03-04\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/retail-consumer\/big-tech-group-tells-pentagons-hegseth-they-are-concerned-about-declaring-2026-03-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Reuters<\/a>, the letter was sent to Defense Minister Hegeseth on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Anthropic is not explicitly mentioned in the letter. He explained that classifications such as &quot;supply chain national security risk&quot; are intended for genuine emergencies. Typically, such measures are used against companies classified as foreign adversaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oxman also argued that disputes over government procurement contracts should normally be resolved through other means. These include, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>established government procurement procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Negotiations on contract terms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the selection of alternative providers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Classifying a case as a security risk is not the usual procedure in such cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-reaktion-des-verteidigungsministeriums\">Defense Ministry response<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The US Department of Defense responded only briefly to the industry association&#039;s letter.
