Discord has temporarily halted its planned global rollout of mandatory age verification. Following significant criticism from the community, the original concept will not be implemented as announced. Instead, a revised approach is slated to launch in the second half of 2026, incorporating additional options, greater transparency, and technical adjustments. This decision marks a clear shift in policy on a topic that has quickly generated considerable discussion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, it was announced that Discord planned to introduce comprehensive age verification. The plan was that, starting in March, users would either have to undergo a facial scan or submit an official ID document to retain full access to the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until successful verification, access would have been automatically restricted to a so-called "teenager level." This would have meant that age-restricted content or areas would no longer have been accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a new blog post, co-founder and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy went significantly further. He confirmed that age verification will not launch in March as planned. Instead, its introduction has been postponed to the second half of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More verification options planned<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A key point of criticism was the limited selection of verification methods. Initially, only facial scans or ID checks were considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discord has announced<\/a> plans to introduce additional verification options. One alternative, already under development, is credit card verification. This method is expected to be finalized and expanded before its global rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
