The AirTag 2 has recently been released and brings with it several technical improvements. While attention has recently focused heavily on Apple's quarterly figures, an important behind-the-scenes look has initially gone unnoticed: the teardown of the new tracker. This report picks up exactly where that leaves off, summarizing what's inside the AirTag 2 and what innovations Apple has implemented.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The repair and analysis portal iFixit completely disassembled the AirTag 2 and examined its individual components in detail. The goal was to highlight differences from the previous model and demonstrate how Apple has further developed the design, speakers, and tracking technology. The exterior design remains virtually unchanged<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, the AirTag 2 hardly differs from the original AirTag. Its form factor and basic design are practically identical. Improved speaker with higher volume<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

One of the most noticeable changes inside the AirTag 2 is the redesigned speaker. According to Apple, it's up to 50 percent louder than the original AirTag. This should make the audible signal more noticeable when searching for a lost item. A previous teardown had already shown<\/a> that the speaker in the AirTag 2 is significantly more difficult to remove than in the previous model. However, iFixit was able to demonstrate that it's technically possible to disable the signal tone. A soldering iron was used to disable the speaker. This shows that while Apple has improved tamper protection, it's not completely impenetrable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second-generation ultra-wideband chip<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The AirTag 2 uses a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This chip is responsible for improved Precision Finding. Compared to the original AirTag, Precision Finding now works up to 50 percent further away from the target object. Additionally, the overall Bluetooth tracking range has been improved. This allows the location of an AirTag 2 to be determined more reliably from a greater distance, even when the target object is not in close proximity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
