Apple is significantly expanding its fitness offerings at the start of the year. New workout programs for Apple Fitness+, limited-time awards for the Apple Watch, a challenge in collaboration with Strava, and new content for the Time to Walk audio format were all unveiled. These announcements are complemented by the latest findings from a long-term fitness study, which aims to reveal how exercise habits change around the turn of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fitness and health are integral to Apple's ecosystem. For years, the company has been collecting data on daily activity with the Apple Watch and Apple Fitness+, combining it with workout programs, motivational elements, and scientific studies. The newly introduced features are primarily aimed at reinforcing the January period when many people abandon their New Year's resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New New Year's award for Apple Watch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

To kick off the new year, Apple is introducing a limited-time New Year's award. This award can be earned in January by closing all three Activity rings on the Apple Watch for seven consecutive days. The award is time-limited and is designed to encourage users to stay regularly active right from the start of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quit Quitting Challenge in collaboration with Strava<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Apple is launching a new challenge in cooperation with Strava. The so-called Quit Quitting Challenge runs throughout January. Anyone who records a total of twelve workouts in Strava during this period will receive a special Apple Watch badge within the app. This marks the first time a major campaign has been implemented that directly links Apple Watch activity with an external fitness platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New multi-week programs at Apple Fitness+<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Starting January 5th, Apple is expanding its Apple Fitness+ offerings with new multi-week workout programs. Titled "Make Your Fitness Comeback," the program includes sessions in strength training, HIIT, and yoga. The structure is intentionally designed for the long term, with each week building upon the previous one, ensuring gradual progress and avoiding short-term motivational boosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The return of the Artist Spotlight format<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Fitness+ Artist Spotlight format will also continue. New workouts will be complemented by music from KAROL G. Starting February 5th, additional training sessions with music from Bad Bunny will be added. Music thus remains a central element within the Fitness+ workouts and will be used specifically for motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Time to Walk episodes starting in January<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

New episodes of the audio format Time to Walk will be released starting January 19th. The new episodes feature actor and producer Penn Badgley, Spice Girls member, singer, songwriter, and TV personality Mel B, and actress Michelle Monaghan. The episodes combine walks with personal stories and aim to encourage regular exercise in everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple analyzes training data surrounding Quitter's Day<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In connection with its new offerings, Apple also refers to recent analyses from the Apple Heart and Movement Study. The so-called Quitter's Day, the second Friday in January, is considered the time when many people abandon their fitness resolutions. The analysis is based on four years of data from approximately 100,000 participants who regularly wore an Apple Watch and shared their activity data as part of a long-term study with major US healthcare institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results show that after a seasonal decline in activity during November and December, there is a significant increase in average daily exercise minutes in January. This increase continues into spring. More than 60 percent of users increased their activity by more than ten percent in the first two weeks of January compared to December. Almost 80 percent of these users maintained this increase until the end of January. Around 90 percent of this group also maintained the higher activity level in February and March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fitness+: Apple focuses on long-term motivation rather than short-term resolutions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With new Fitness+ programs, limited-time awards, a challenge with Strava, and additional content for Time to Walk, Apple is<\/a> further expanding its fitness offerings at the start of the year. At the same time, analyzed study data is said to show that Apple Watch users not only increase their activity in the short term after the New Year, but also maintain it in the long term.
