Apple responded that the existing rules were part of a unified platform strategy to prevent fraud and protect payment processes. Now a court must determine whether the rules actually led to higher costs or whether the prices were primarily set by the streaming services themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of the outcome of the legal proceedings, new EU regulations have already had an effect. Apple now allows direct subscriptions within apps and requires developers to indicate that subscriptions can be purchased via the web. This changes the dynamic role of the App Store.
