Apple continues to work diligently on its chip roadmap. Following the launch of the M5 processor, the next generation of devices is already in the starting blocks. The M5 is scheduled to appear in several new devices in 2026 and continue Apple's focus on increased performance and energy efficiency. The focus will be on new versions of the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac mini. The MacBook Pro line will also receive an update \u2013 albeit initially without any visible design changes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since switching from Intel to its own processors, Apple has fundamentally changed its Mac line. The M series represents a close integration of hardware and software, resulting in high performance combined with low energy consumption. With the M5, Apple continues this path. The company is focusing less on visual innovations and more on technical advancements inside. The goal is to establish the M5 generation as a stable and powerful platform for future design and display innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M5 MacBook Air to be released in spring 2026<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

According to information<\/a> from Mark Gurman in Bloomberg's "Power On" newsletter, Apple plans to launch new MacBook Air models with the M5 chip in spring 2026. The current MacBook Air design dates back to 2022 and was updated with a larger 15-inch version in 2023. The upcoming model will not undergo any exterior changes. Instead, the focus will be on integrating the new M5 chip, which is expected to offer increased performance and improved energy efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another update is planned for 2027. The MacBook Air is expected to receive a new LCD display. In this context, there is also speculation about possible design changes. This would mark the first major changes Apple has made to the Air model's chassis and display design in several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro early 2026<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Apple plans to introduce new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors as early as early 2026. Here, too, the design will initially remain unchanged. The focus is entirely on the chips, which promise a significant performance boost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Gurman, a more comprehensive redesign of the MacBook Pro isn't planned until late 2026 or early 2027. This generation will see thinner and lighter devices. Apple is working on OLED displays and, for the first time, touchscreen functionality for the MacBook Pro. This would be the first major design change since 2021, when Apple introduced the current form factor with a mini-LED display, MagSafe, and HDMI port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New desktop Macs in the works<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition to mobile Macs, Apple is currently developing new versions of the Mac Studio and Mac mini. Both desktop models will be equipped with the M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. These versions are primarily designed for professional users who require high computing power in compact devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple is also working on two new external displays. One of these will be the second generation Studio Display. These new monitors are likely to be released alongside the updated desktop models. However, a specific timeline for the launch of the new Mac Studio and Mac mini versions is currently unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on chip upgrade instead of design change<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With the M5 generation, Apple continues its clear focus on technological evolution rather than design revolution. The devices remain largely the same externally, while the new chip architecture ensures greater performance, efficiency, and future viability. This enables continuous performance improvements across multiple product cycles without compromising the stability of the hardware platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the long term, however, Apple is working<\/a> on a new product generation that will combine OLED displays, touch input, and a redesigned chassis for the first time. This phase is scheduled to begin in late 2026 or early 2027 and will mark the biggest redesign of the MacBook line in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
