The iPhone Fold is expected to mark Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market next year. New information suggests that the device will use a mix of titanium and aluminum. Analyst Jeff Pu has released further details on the design and planned specifications of the iPhone 18 Fold in a recent report. The first foldable iPhone is thus slowly taking shape.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple is traditionally considered cautious when it comes to new device categories. While Samsung, Google, and other manufacturers have already launched several generations of foldable smartphones, Apple has apparently been working on its own solution in the background for years. The iPhone Fold is intended to be not only technically sophisticated but also durable and visually appealing. New reports from Jeff Pu, Ming-Chi Kuo, and Bloomberg provide clues as to how Apple is addressing this challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titanium and aluminum frame<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

According to Jeff Pu, the iPhone 18 Fold will feature a metal frame made from a blend of titanium and aluminum. This combination is intended to give the case strength while keeping it lightweight. Bloomberg describes the device as "two titanium iPhone Airs side by side," suggesting a very slim and lightweight design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pu doesn't provide any further details about the appearance or shape in his report, but does confirm the choice of materials. Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the iPhone Fold's hinge will be made of stainless steel and titanium, while the casing will be made entirely of titanium. This would indicate that Apple would be relying more heavily on high-quality metals for a foldable model than in current iPhone variants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple currently uses titanium in the iPhone Air. Previous Pro models also used it, but this year they switched back to aluminum. The reason for this is reportedly improved heat dissipation and reduced weight. The iPhone Fold is said to have two screens. According to current information, the outer display measures 5.5 inches, while the inner panel is expected to be 7.8 inches. This makes the outer display roughly the size of an iPhone mini, while the inner display is approximately the size of an iPad mini. The concept apparently envisions the device functioning like a compact smartphone when closed and unfolding into a small tablet when opened. No Face ID, but Touch ID<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone Fold won't support Face ID. Instead, Apple will apparently rely on Touch ID again. A fingerprint sensor in the display or the power button is considered likely.
