Apple is preparing the first hardware update for the Vision Pro. The new model, internally known as the Apple Vision Pro 2, brings two major changes: a more powerful M4 chip and a redesigned strap. While the weight of the headset remains the same, the new design is said to noticeably improve comfort.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it was first introduced, the Vision Pro was heralded as the next big step in spatial computing. The device impressed many from a technical perspective \u2013 but its weight and high price also drew criticism. The upcoming update addresses at least one of these two issues: comfort. At the same time, the hardware is getting a powerful upgrade with the M4 chip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New M4 chip replaces M2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The biggest technical innovation is the switch to the M4 chip. This replaces the previous M2 chip from the first generation and offers more computing power and improved energy efficiency. The M4 belongs to the same generation as the chips currently installed in the latest iPads and MacBooks. This makes the headset better equipped for demanding applications\u2014such as compute-intensive XR experiences, AI-based features, and multitasking in visionOS. The new chip also forms the basis for the upcoming visionOS 26, which is scheduled to be released later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New strap design for more comfort<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the technical upgrade, the update focuses on wearing comfort. The new strap is intended to make the headset more comfortable, especially during extended use. According to Bloomberg<\/a> , the weight of the Vision Pro remains unchanged \u2013 and is still a common point of criticism. Users report neck tension and headaches after longer sessions. Apple aims to counteract this problem with a redesigned strap that fits better and distributes pressure more evenly. So far, Apple includes two straps: the Solo Knit, which can be seen in most promotional photos, and the Dual Loop, which many find more comfortable because it supports the head in multiple places. Apple has likely evaluated user feedback and developed a new design that combines both variants into an improved system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No discount despite update<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The price isn't expected to change. According to current estimates, the Apple Vision Pro 2 will continue to cost $3,499 (\u20ac3,999 in Germany). This means the headset remains a niche product aimed more at developers, enthusiasts, and businesses than at the mass market. Apple itself apparently sees the new version only as an interim solution. It's intended to modernize the platform technically, but not fundamentally change demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Vision Pro 2: Not a game changer, but noticeably better<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Apple Vision Pro 2 isn't revolutionary, but it's a worthwhile update. The M4 chip delivers more performance, and the new strap design improves comfort\u2014both without any major external changes.
