The British government wants to force access to encrypted user data \u2013 and Apple is fighting back. Now the company is getting support from WhatsApp. The dispute could be crucial for the future of digital privacy, not only in the UK, but worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data protection is an issue that directly affects you \u2013 whether you send messages, save photos, or create backups. Apple offers strong encryption with its iCloud services so that no one can access your data. But that&#039;s exactly what the British Home Office wants to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>The accusation:<\/strong> Apple is obstructing investigations. Apple&#039;s response: consistent resistance. At the same time, the company is taking legal action against the demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-whatsapp-bezieht-stellung\">WhatsApp takes a stand<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart stated in an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cgmjrn42wdwo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">BBC<\/a> that his company is supporting Apple in the legal dispute. WhatsApp fears that this case could set a dangerous precedent. If one government enforces the undermining of encrypted communications, other countries could follow suit. Cathcart emphasized that WhatsApp will reject any measure aimed at weakening the platform&#039;s encryption. The messaging service is committed to the right to private online communication. Among others, Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apfelpatient.de\/en\/news\/ios-backdoor-usa-threatens-great-britain-with-consequences\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">described<\/a> the British stance as a serious violation of the privacy of American citizens. The case demonstrates that this is not just about national laws, but about global standards for encryption, data protection, and government access rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gericht-lasst-keine-geheimverhandlung-zu\">Court does not allow secret hearing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Another point in this case: The British government wanted to conduct the trial against Apple behind closed doors. But a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apfelpatient.de\/en\/news\/apple-rejects-backdoor-court-overturns-secrecy\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">British court<\/a> rejected this. The judges ruled that a completely secret trial was only permissible in truly exceptional circumstances \u2013 and this was not one of them.
