And it makes it quite clear: OpenAI wants to make the AI chatbot more than just a tool. The goal is to develop ChatGPT into a super assistant that handles almost all digital tasks for you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its launch in 2022, ChatGPT has received a lot of attention. The application is considered a milestone in AI development and quickly made the leap from a nerd tool to a mainstream application. Millions of people now use ChatGPT every day \u2013 on the website, via the app, or through integrations with other services. But OpenAI is planning a further development that will completely transform the user experience. ChatGPT is intended to become the central digital interface \u2013 not just for individual tasks, but for your entire everyday online life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-chatgpt-soll-zur-schnittstelle-zum-internet-werden\">ChatGPT is intended to become the interface to the Internet<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/atr\/media\/1397596\/dl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">document,<\/a> OpenAI plans to further develop ChatGPT so that you can use the assistant to access the internet in the future \u2013 without any detours. ChatGPT should understand what you want, make suggestions, and be able to act directly. This isn&#039;t just about searching or answering questions, but about concrete tasks: organizing appointments, preparing presentations, finding restaurants, planning trips, or helping with private meetings. OpenAI no longer sees ChatGPT as a mere tool, but as a digital companion in all areas of life. The wording in the document is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Our vision for ChatGPT is to support you throughout your life, no matter where you are.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> This information comes from an internal OpenAI policy paper created in late 2024. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/atr\/media\/1397596\/dl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">made public<\/a> in the wake of the US Department of Justice&#039;s antitrust proceedings against Google \u2013 with some redactions, but still insightful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-multifunktional-vernetzt-standig-verfugbar\">Multifunctional, networked, always available<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The paper also speaks of a &quot;T-shaped&quot; profile. This means that ChatGPT should have a broad basic understanding of many everyday things \u2013 while simultaneously offering in-depth specialized knowledge for complex requirements. This applies to, for example, programming, legal issues, education, or project management. Further development is scheduled to take place in two phases in 2025. The first half of the year will focus on expanding ChatGPT into a super assistant. The second half will be about expanding the offering so that it remains economically viable. In other words, OpenAI also wants to advance the monetization of this new version of ChatGPT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-technologische-basis-multimodal-und-agentenfahig\">Technological basis: multimodal and agent-capable<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The document emphasizes that the current models \u2013 referred to as 02 and 03 \u2013 are now powerful enough to handle demanding tasks. ChatGPT also already has access to tools such as web browsers and file management. The combination of powerful AI, tool integration, and multimodal operation (text, speech, and images) should ensure that ChatGPT understands users even better and responds more flexibly to their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wettbewerb-und-risiken\">Competition and risks<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A not insignificant point: OpenAI is also keeping an eye on its competitors. The strategy paper primarily cites a redacted but very brief description as the potential biggest threat for 2025. Given its brevity, it&#039;s easy to assume that this could be Meta. Meta AI has been expanding its own AI offerings in recent months, for example, within WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. One advantage for competitors like Meta: They don&#039;t have to consider existing business models, like Google does with its advertising business. This gives them more flexibility in integrating AI functions into their platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-infrastruktur-als-engpass\">Infrastructure as a bottleneck<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Another challenge is technical. To accommodate growth, OpenAI needs significantly more computing power. CEO Sam Altman is therefore massively expanding its data centers. The goal is to be able to deliver fast and reliable results even with increasing usage. The strategy paper states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We are leading the way here, but we cannot rest.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also warned that growth and sales do not automatically go hand in hand in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-regulierung-und-plattform-zugang\">Regulation and platform access<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In the document, OpenAI also advocates for legally obligating platform operators to allow ChatGPT as a default assistant. The reason: Many platforms \u2013 such as operating systems or browsers \u2013 rely on their own AI solutions. If ChatGPT isn&#039;t integrated into them, OpenAI loses direct access to users. The vision: ChatGPT knows you, understands your goals, and actively helps you \u2013 in the background, across all devices, around the clock. To achieve this, OpenAI is working on more intelligent models, better infrastructure, and stronger integration into platforms. At the same time, the economic basis is being strengthened to ensure that the expansion is worthwhile in the long term. If these plans come to fruition, ChatGPT will be far more than just a smart chatbot in the future.
