This now includes the translation function. Specifically, this means you can make Google Translate the default translation app on your iPhone or iPad. This wasn&#039;t possible before \u2013 until now, Apple&#039;s own translation app was firmly embedded in the system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact that Apple is enabling this opening is not a voluntary step. The reason behind this is growing regulatory pressure, particularly from the European Union. With the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU wants to oblige large tech companies to give users more choice and control over pre-installed services. Apple is responding by introducing new options \u2013 not only in Europe, but worldwide. This affects browsers, email programs, navigation services, media playback, and even translation services. iOS 18.4 thus introduces a significant expansion of the Control Panel, and apps like Google Translate directly benefit from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-was-sich-genau-geandert-hat\">What exactly has changed<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Until now, translations on iPhones and iPads were performed automatically using Apple&#039;s own app. Whether you asked Siri for a translation or highlighted a section of text, the system forwarded everything to Apple&#039;s solution. With the latest update, you can change that. Google Translate can now be set as the default app for translations. This means that system functions like Siri or pop-ups with text selection will use Google Translate in the future if you set them up that way. Google confirmed the change in the app&#039;s release notes. The process for switching is also described there. You must have iOS 18.4 or higher installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-so-stellst-du-google-translate-als-standard-ein\">How to set Google Translate as default<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to use Google Translate for all translation functions on your device in the future, you can do so in just a few steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the settings on your iPhone or iPad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to \u201cApps\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u201cDefault Apps\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap \u201cTranslation\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set Google Translate as default app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This completes the transition.
