While the update brings a few minor improvements, the main focus is on more than 30 security vulnerabilities that have been closed with this release. If you use an iPhone, this update is important\u2014whether you expect new features or not.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple regularly releases security updates for iOS. Many of them fly under the radar because they don&#039;t bring any visible changes. iOS 18.5 is one of those updates that focuses primarily on protecting your device. Over 30 security vulnerabilities have been patched, including some affecting Bluetooth, FaceTime, and other key system areas. iPhone 16e users should also pay close attention\u2014a particularly sensitive vulnerability has been closed for this model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sicherheitslucken-in-ios-18-5-das-steckt-drin\">Security vulnerabilities in iOS 18.5: What&#039;s inside<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The new version fixes vulnerabilities in several iOS components. According to Apple, none of these holes have been actively exploited, but some of them offer serious attack surfaces. The affected areas include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bluetooth \u2013 Vulnerabilities in the Bluetooth stack could allow attackers to gain access to your device if they are within range.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FaceTime \u2013 Flaws in FaceTime could impair video or audio communication or provide opportunities for unauthorized access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call History \u2013 iOS 18.5 closes a vulnerability that could have allowed unauthorized access to your call history.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CoreAudio and AppleJPEG \u2013 Fixed issues that could be exploited when processing certain media or image files.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">These vulnerabilities alone are reason enough not to delay the update. The fact that over 30 entries for iOS 18.5 appear on Apple&#039;s <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/122404\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">security website<\/a> demonstrates the magnitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-speziell-fur-das-iphone-16e-lucke-im-c1-modem-geschlossen\">Especially for the iPhone 16e: Gap in the C1 modem closed<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Of particular interest is a security vulnerability that exclusively affects the iPhone 16e. This model is the first to be equipped with its own Apple modem \u2013 the so-called C1 chip. Apple has closed a vulnerability in this chip&#039;s baseband in the update. The problem: An attacker in a privileged network position could potentially have intercepted your data traffic. This doesn&#039;t affect everyday Wi-Fi usage, but rather targeted attacks, such as those via manipulated mobile networks. Nevertheless, the risk is real \u2013 especially for people who work with sensitive data professionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-weitere-sicherheitsupdates-fur-andere-apple-systeme\">Further security updates for other Apple systems<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside iOS 18.5, Apple also provided patches for other systems. The following updates were released on the same day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>iPadOS 17.7.7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>macOS Sequoia 15.5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>macOS Sonoma 14.7.6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>macOS Ventura 13.7.6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>watchOS 11.5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tvOS 18.5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The security vulnerabilities vary depending on the platform, but the recommendation remains the same: If you use an Apple device, you should update it to the latest version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apfelpatient.de\/en\/tips-tricks\/iphone-too-close-to-the-face-this-function-intervenes\">iPhone too close to your face? Apple has fixed over 30 vulnerabilities, including several in critical areas like Bluetooth, FaceTime, and the iPhone modem.
