Apple is apparently planning a special iPhone for 2027. To mark the device's 20th anniversary, a model is expected to be released that will be significantly different from anything previously on the market. Multiple sources report that a completely new design with a true all-screen display is in the works. This would mean no notch, no visible front camera, no visible Face ID technology\u2014just a screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Apple design chief Jony Ive spoke years ago about an iPhone consisting solely of a display. Until now, this was more of a vision than a concrete plan. But now there are solid indications that Apple is actually working on implementing this idea \u2013 just in time for the iPhone's milestone anniversary in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A true all-screen design is in development<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

According to a recent report from The Information, Apple is working on at least one iPhone model with a display that extends completely across the front\u2014a true edge-to-edge design. The front-facing camera and Face ID system will be placed beneath the display, eliminating any visible sensors or cameras. This model is scheduled for launch in 2027. This coincides with the iPhone's 20th anniversary. Apple could therefore use this anniversary to unveil an iPhone that represents a completely new design approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPhone 18 Pro is the first<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Before the iPhone with a full screen appears, Apple is apparently planning an interim step. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are already expected to feature Face ID technology under the display. However, the camera will still be visible \u2013 in the form of a small camera hole. This approach brings Apple closer to the goal of a completely edgeless display, but is not yet the final version. 2027: iPhone 19 Pro with full all-screen design<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, the all-screen design will initially only be used on the higher-end iPhones. This presumably refers to the Pro models, specifically the iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone 19 Pro Max, which could be released in September 2027. On these models, both Face ID and the front camera are expected to disappear completely beneath the display. The front surface would then be completely free\u2014no interruption, no notch.
