This allows the structural elements of Face ID to be made smaller, which means that the Dynamic Island could also be smaller. The technological difference to previous Face ID elements lies in the type of lens. Conventional lenses use curved glass surfaces to direct the light onto the sensor. A Metalens, on the other hand, consists of a flat, ultra-thin surface with nanostructures that specifically control and focus the light. This could not only reduce the size of the Dynamic Island but also improve the efficiency and accuracy of Face ID.
