Apple released a software update for iOS 16.2 beta 3 and iPadOS 16.2 beta 3 late Wednesday evening that may include an important security fix.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Details about the problem are not currently available. However, the update is clearly marked as a security-specific fix. Of course, it is also possible that it is not an actual security fix. The update could be a test to demonstrate Apple's Rapid Security Response System. With this new feature, security updates<\/a>that do not affect the device firmware can optionally be installed automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The version is available via Software Update in the Settings app. The 96MB build is called iOS Security Response 16.2 (a). Apple says that "Rapid Security Response provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly, when installing the update, the iOS version is shown as iOS 16.2 (a) and there is an option to remove the "Security Response" under Settings -> General -> About -> iOS Version.
