According to an Apple analyst, the iPhone 15 Pro models could feature solid-state buttons for volume and standby.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a tweet claimed<\/a> Ming-Chi Kuo said the volume and power buttons on the two high-end 2023 iPhone models could feature a solid-state design similar to the iPhone 7's home button, replacing the mechanical buttons that are physically pressed. Apple uses a similar method for its Mac trackpads, which don't move but simply mimic the feeling of pressing through small vibrations. The new iPhones will reportedly have additional Taptic Engines on the left and right inner sides that will give users feedback, making it seem like they are pressing physical buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that the number of Taptic Engines in each iPhone will increase from one to three. Rumors suggested that Apple was planning to switch the Apple Watch to solid-state buttons a few years ago, but the switch never happened. At the time, it was said that solid-state buttons would improve water resistance and take up less space inside the device. It remains unclear whether this will also apply to the iPhone, as enough space is needed for two more Taptic Engines.
