Now the final decision could be made as early as June 7, 2022. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/exclusive-eu-set-reach-deal-single-mobile-charging-port-june-7-sources-2022-06-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Declarations<\/a> According to Reuters, lawmakers and representatives of EU countries are scheduled to meet on that day. It is the second meeting of its kind on the issue. Unnamed sources say there is strong pressure to make the decision. The latest version of the proposal includes not only a USB-C charging port for smartphones but also for laptops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-apple-usb-c-pflicht-wird-zu-mehr-elektroschrott-fuhren\">Apple: USB-C requirement will lead to more electronic waste<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Lawmakers now also want to create an agreed standard for wireless charging. These two points could delay the decision. The extension of the USB-C charging point to laptops, for example, will likely affect Samsung. The European Commission wants a longer lead time than some member states for wireless charging standards. Apple has not explicitly commented on the meeting on June 7th. But the company has already argued strongly in the past that a forced introduction of USB-C could lead to more electronic waste. Regardless, there are rumors that the iPhone 15 will use USB-C in 2023. If this is mandated, the law would replace the existing Micro-USB mandate.
