Apple has invested in gaming content with Apple Arcade and thereby expanded its service business. But this market is much larger. Now patents have emerged that confirm that Apple is working on its own game controller.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US Patent and Trademark Office and the European Patent Office have granted Apple patents for game controllers in the last two weeks (via Patently Apple<\/a>). The patents suggest that the project is still quite experimental, as the images show different types of controllers. The first patent was published on March 31, and the second on April 10. In one of the concepts studied by Apple's engineering team, the company shows an accessory similar to the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con, where the controller is split into two different parts that can be attached to the sides of the device. This would work with both the iPhone and iPad, in either portrait or landscape mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second alternative is designed exclusively for the iPhone and is a foldable case that houses the buttons. Additionally, the case would have a small built-in display to show additional game content or even a touch keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last but not least, the patents show a third game controller with a more classic joystick design. This would work with all Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac via Bluetooth and would have a special switch that would allow you to activate a game mode on the device or even answer a call while playing. This is not the first time that there have been reports that Apple is planning to launch its own game controller. In 2020, Twitter leaker @L0vetodream claimed that Apple was working on a joystick.
