Even before the announcement of iOS 15, it was discovered that Apple was working on a new method to provide iPhone and iPad users with alternative security updates. Over the summer, Apple confirmed that users who are not ready to upgrade to iOS 15 would receive security updates on iOS 14. But that no longer seems to be the case.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For an unknown reason, the company has changed the original plan and will no longer provide users with security updates on iOS 14. Instead, it is returning to the traditional update method, where users are forced to install the latest version of the operating system (i.e. iOS 15) to receive the security improvements. This change was already made on iOS 15.2, which was released in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security updates on iOS: Users no longer have a choice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

On October 26, 2021, Apple released iOS 14.8.1 for devices that are not running iOS 15. But this update is no longer available. This means that devices running iOS 14.8 can no longer choose between iOS 15 and iOS 14.8.1 but are forced to switch to iOS 15. Of course, this could also be a bug, as Apple<\/a> has not confirmed anything of the sort so far. However, it is unlikely, as Apple has not provided any security updates under iOS 14 since October, but only under iOS 15.
