There is currently speculation about whether Apple will eventually catch up with the iPhone. People are wondering how Apple might go about it. Now a patent reveals a possible alternative.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If current rumors are to be believed, Apple will eventually abandon the Lightning port and go straight to a portless device. A switch to USB-C is out of the question \u2013 at least that is what respected analysts and market observers are reporting. According to current status, MagSafe could then become the standard. But a recently discovered Patent<\/a> shows that MagSafe technology could be changed again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple patent describes magnetic surface contacts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The current iPhone 13 series has MagSafe technology on the back. But Apple is apparently still thinking about a different form of MagSafe. The new patent is titled "Magnetic surface contacts" and covers a number of applications related to magnetic Smart Connectors, similar to the MagSafe charger for the old MacBooks and the Smart Connector of the iPad's Smart Keyboard. The patent is interesting because it shows that Apple is still thinking about different ways to charge mobile devices without a classic port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the patent doesn't specifically mention the iPhone (they never do), the images clearly show a Smart Connector and corresponding dock on the bottom of a smartphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with the patent and current rumors, it has already been reported that Apple is working on an "Internet Recovery" function. If the port is omitted, it must still be possible to restore the iPhone. This would then be done over the Internet. On the whole, it seems that Apple is interested in such a device.
