A few days ago, accessory manufacturer Nomad introduced the MagSafe Mount Stand, a zinc alloy metal block that holds Apple's MagSafe charging cable for a more convenient way to charge devices. But is the new product worth the money?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nomad introduced the MagSafe Mount in April this year, a massive mount that provides a secure base for the MagSafe charger. The solid stainless steel body anchors Apple's MagSafe charger to the desk, allowing users to enjoy the benefits of MagSafe without having to take the charger with them when they pick up their iPhone. The reason for this is the weight of the metal block. Now the company has a second version presented<\/a>, which features a vertical design. While not as premium, the vertical model is made from a single block of zinc alloy metal coated with a carbide finish, compared to the higher-quality material of the first version. Still, it does the same job of housing Apple's MagSafe charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New model allows FaceTime calls and more<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now I've taken a closer look at the product and decided to report on it more explicitly this time. In fact, I also have the first version, which is why this hands-on is a kind of comparison between the two models. The construction is definitely a highlight, as it helps to create a minimalist bedside table or even a desk. At the same time, the simple design is still very effective when it comes to using the iPhone while charging. Unlike the first version, you can make FaceTime calls or easily view notifications while charging. Thanks to the MagSafe puck, which is magnetic, you can rotate the iPhone, which also makes it possible to watch series, films or videos. As a reminder: the first MagSafe mount does not allow all of this, as the iPhone rests on it like with a conventional Qi charging mat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the MagSafe Mount Stand is quite heavy and has a rubber on the bottom for extra grip, it doesn't stay in place quite as firmly as the stainless steel version. But what is the biggest advantage of both models over other Qi charging mats? Quite simply - the answer is MagSafe. If an iPhone is charged on a normal Qi charging station, it charges at 7.5W. But if an iPhone 12 model is charged with MagSafe technology, it can absorb up to 15W, assuming a power adapter of 20W or higher. By the way, this rule does not apply to the iPhone 12 mini. This has a maximum value of 12W. So what does that mean? Using the MagSafe charging puck alone means that removing the iPhone requires one more hand movement due to the magnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much does the new accessory cost?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

However, if the charging puck is placed in one of the MagSafe Mount models, it feels like a normal Qi charging station - with the difference that it charges much faster. Together with the timeless design, it should certainly be attractive to some people. However, this is also reflected in the price, which does not appeal to every user. Simple Qi charging stations are thrown at you these days. With Nomad, however, you always pay a little more. The MagSafe Mount Stand is positioned at 59.95 US dollars, while the normal MagSafe Mount currently costs 79.95 US dollars instead of 99.95 US dollars - for example online shop<\/a>By the way, Apple's MagSafe charger is not included. This must be purchased separately, which makes the whole thing even more expensive.
