It may take even longer for the shortage to completely subside.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TSMC has now officially confirmed recent reports from other foundries, stating that it will take &quot;a few years&quot; for the effects of the global chip shortage to pass. The announcement came as part of the quarterly earnings release. According to Reuters, TSMC exceeded expectations with a 19.4% increase in profit in the first quarter. Sales for January-March were $12.92 billion, profits were $4.93 billion. This is reportedly due to &quot;stronger engagement with more customers,&quot; which is also behind the company&#039;s investments. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsmc.com\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">company<\/a> in the expansion. TSMC CEO CC Wei explained:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-weltweite-chip-knappheit-tsmc-sieht-darin-mehrere-jahre-wachstumschancen\">Global chip shortage: TSMC sees \u201cseveral years of growth opportunities\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We have acquired land and equipment and begun construction of new facilities. We are hiring thousands of employees and expanding our capacity at several locations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The reasons for the ongoing global chip shortage are, among other things, due to the higher demand for electronic devices during the COVID-19 pandemic - many people have switched to working from home. In addition, there are limited manufacturing capacities and supply chain problems. However, TSMC also sees this as &quot;several years of growth opportunities&quot;. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has described the chip shortage as a &quot;national security problem&quot; and has started making significant investments in the semiconductor and battery industries.
