Apple has now defended the App Store app review process after Epic Games and other developers filed formal complaints with the Australian antitrust authority.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to complaints about Apple's 30 percent fee, Epic had told the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) that the app review process could delay the launch and update of apps, apps could be rejected by Apple without a valid reason, and it was difficult to get in touch with the company when such a case occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

App review process: Apple denies allegations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Apple then made a statement to the ACCC and explained<\/a>that the company's app review process is necessary to ensure that apps do what they claim, are bug-free, do not contain objectionable content, and respect user privacy. According to the company, most decisions are made quickly. In the event of a rejection, developers always receive a full explanation, along with options for appealing a rejection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple reviews 73% of potential apps within 24 hours of them being submitted by a developer. If an app is rejected, Apple will provide the developer with the following information: (a) the reason for the rejection; (b) the specific App Store Review Guideline(s)1 that were not met; (c) a description of why the guideline(s) were not met, with reference to how the app works.<\/p>

If an app is rejected, developers can use App Store Connect to correspond with the Apple team member who reviewed the app.<\/p>

Developers also have the option to file a formal appeal with the App Store Review Board, which is comprised of experienced app reviewers who have a high level of experience in reviewing apps. The board will re-examine the app and provide the developer with a response.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Apple highlights communication channels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Apple has also denied allegations that it is difficult to communicate with the review team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple operates a global phone support line for developers with inquiries about app submission and management, enrollment and membership, and analytics. This support line is available in all 175 countries where the Apple App Store is present and handles an average of 1,000 calls per week.<\/p>

Apple also has local Developer Relations teams that act as the primary point of contact for local developers to communicate with Apple and provide feedback that is passed on to the appropriate teams within Apple. Our local Developer Relations teams are in constant communication with developers about new apps and features and work with developers to find solutions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
