Apple released new MacBook Air models last week presented<\/a>In addition to a performance boost, the keyboard has been completely redesigned. Now the guys at iFixit have taken a look inside. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a new product is announced, it doesn't take long for iFixit to get its hands on the device - as was the case with the MacBook Air 2020. The new MacBook Air will now be delivered with a scissor keyboard. It is generally considered to be more reliable and significantly more robust than the butterfly keyboard. But what about the general repairability of the devices? The report explains iFixit<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where last year the trackpad cables were housed under the logic board, they can now be disconnected at any time - meaning the trackpad can be removed once the back cover comes off. And since the battery is under those same cables, this new configuration also makes battery removal much faster, as the logic board stays in place. This is one of those lucky (but all too rare) occasions when we can spot a hardware change from Apple aimed precisely at improving the serviceability of the existing design. Ease of repair: four out of ten points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It goes on to say that the model number and battery specifications have remained unchanged compared to the 2019 series. In addition, the MacBook Air 2020 uses both pull-tab adhesive and screws to secure the speakers. The SSD and RAM remain soldered and therefore cannot be upgraded. Overall, the new MacBook Air 2020 received four out of a possible ten points in terms of ease of repair. The reason for this rating is the improved accessibility in the trackpad and battery area. But the fan and speakers are also now easier to replace. The keyboard remains a problem, as it is also firmly attached to the case in the current MacBook Air generation.
