Apple could soon unveil new versions of the Apple TV and the HomePod mini. According to a report by Mark Gurman, known for his well-informed Apple coverage at Bloomberg, there's a good chance both devices will be released in November. Evidence from retailers and declining inventory of current models suggests an imminent launch.
For years, Apple TV has been considered the centerpiece of Apple's living room entertainment strategy. Together with the HomePod mini, it forms the basis of a connected smart home system that works seamlessly with Siri and other Apple devices. After several years without major innovations, Apple now appears to be preparing an update that will not only improve the hardware but also support the upcoming functionality of Apple Intelligence and Siri.
Apple plans nightly store updates
According to Gurman, Apple Stores will perform an overnight update on the evening of November 11th. After closing time, product displays will be adjusted and new devices may be prepared. Such actions are common practice at Apple when new products are launched shortly afterward. The timing is also strategically advantageous – just before the start of the crucial Christmas shopping season.
Gurman points out that while this nightly redesign could be related to the holiday season, it also suggests a product launch. Particularly noticeable is the significant decrease in inventory of current Apple TV models and the HomePod mini in recent weeks. This is often a sign that new versions are imminent.
New hardware with a focus on Apple Intelligence and Siri
The upcoming Apple TV and the new HomePod mini are primarily intended to support the features planned for next year surrounding Apple Intelligence and the new generation of Siri. Apple Intelligence represents a deeper integration of AI into Apple's systems – personalized assistant functions, context-aware recommendations, and more intelligent voice control.
The new devices could therefore be equipped with more powerful chips capable of processing these computationally intensive functions locally. The interaction between Apple TV, HomePod mini, and Siri should become smoother and more intuitive, especially in the living room. This further positions Apple as a provider of a connected smart home experience that combines entertainment and voice assistant.
Shortage of current models
Another indication of the imminent launch of new models is the limited availability of the current generation of devices. Both the Apple TV 4K and the HomePod mini are difficult to find in many markets. Apple often deliberately reduces production of older models to make room for their successors. Gurman assumes that if the new devices don't appear before the end of 2025, they "shouldn't be far off.".
Apple focuses on the living room
While Apple has recently stated that it is not planning any new Macs for the remainder of 2025, its current focus is on entertainment and smart home technology. The new Apple TV and HomePod mini could therefore be the last hardware releases of the year. Both products play a central role in Apple's strategy to integrate its ecosystem more closely into the living room.
Apple is planning the transition to a new, smarter generation of devices
Should Gurman's indications prove true, an update is imminent that will bring more than just cosmetic changes. The new Apple TV and HomePod mini are likely to form the technological foundation for Apple's next steps in artificial intelligence. They are expected to demonstrate how Apple Intelligence and Siri will simplify the interaction between devices and further automate the smart home.
New hardware in the living room: Apple TV and HomePod mini in focus
Apple is apparently preparing the stage for a new generation of its smart home devices. The planned nightly store updates, the low stock levels, and the hints of new AI features all suggest that a new Apple TV and an updated HomePod mini will be released soon. This continues Apple's strategy of making the living room the central hub for its technology and software development – intelligent, connected, and seamlessly integrated into its own ecosystem.
